Leverkusen draws 2-2 with Suttgart and extends unbeaten streak to 46 games

Munich. After finding themselves 0-2 down against Stuttgart (3) well into the second half, Bayer Leverkusen (1) managed once again to avoid defeat in added time through Robert Andrich, to sign a 46th consecutive game without losing this season.

With the German Bundesliga title already secured on matchday 29, Bayer Leverkusen has 81 points with three games left in the championship, and can still become the first German club to close the league undefeated.

On the other hand, the record of 91 points that Bayern Munich has held since 2012-2013 is now far from the reach of Xabi Alonso’s men.

The club from the Cologne periphery can still join Perugia (30 games in 1978-1979), AC Milan (34 in 1991-1992), Juventus (38 in 2011-2012) and Arsenal (38 in 2003-2004) in the select list of the only teams from the five major championships (Spain, England, Germany, Italy and France) to close a season without losing in the league since 1945.

After a catastrophic start to the second half and two goals conceded in the 47th minute, by Chris Führich, and 57th, Deniz Undav, the locals reduced the difference through the Moroccan Amine Adli (61) before the agonizing goal in the death throes of the duel.

It was the 15th time that the Werkself score in added time this season.

Leverkusen can still open its showcases two more times in the coming weeks. They will play the German Cup final against Kaiserslautern on May 25, and will face Roma on Thursday in the first leg of the Europa League semifinals.
