Leveraging Health and Digital Technology Innovations to Maintain Heart Health

Jakarta: Cardiovascular disease is still a global threat and is a disease that plays a major role as the number one cause of death worldwide. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) states that more than 17 million people in the world die from heart disease and blood vessels.

Presented by DR. dr. Isman Firdaus Sp.JP (K), FIHA, FAPSIC, FAsCC, FESC, FACC, FSCAI as General Chair of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Cardiovascular Specialist Doctors Association (PERKI), pandemic covid-19 which has been going on since the end of 2019 is a concern for people with heart disease.

In commemoration of World Heart Day on September 29, PERKI highlighted the importance of maintaining heart health with the help of innovations and changes in technology and digital.

“Digital innovation has helped people who are healthy and sick during the pandemic to get easy access to health, online consultation services, health education, and monitoring of physical activity and exercise achievements, as well as home delivery services,” said dr. Isman, in the written statement received Medcom.id.

The following are PERKI recommendations for the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease for healthy people and people with heart disease during a pandemic:

– Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke, especially during this pandemic.

– Maintain personal and environmental hygiene and implement health protocols, keep a distance, wear masks, clean hands, limit mobility, strictly avoid eating together.

– Immediate vaccination by first consulting and obtaining a doctor’s recommendation.

– Use teleconsultation facilities provided by many hospitals and health clinics.

– Maintain awareness and actively practice heart-healthy habits and culture, such as maintaining regular physical activity according to the ability of the heart and body to work.

– For people with heart disease or their risks, before exercising, you should first consult what type of exercise is right for you so that it does not burden the heart’s work.

– Consume foods high in fiber and reduce consumption of sugar, salt and fat.

– For people with heart disease, a history of heart disease, or the risk, it is necessary to pay attention to and adhere to a routine medication schedule for secondary prevention.

– Various spectrum of cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure, rheumatic heart disease, hypertension, heart valve disorders, heart rhythm disorders, and heart disease in children, must be monitored and controlled as well as possible, consult a cardiologist and blood vessel specialist, so that the heart condition remains stable and the patient can function properly.
