Manchester –
Newcastle United stare English League Cup final with a goalkeeping crisis. Manchester United are determined to take advantage of him.
Duel Manchester United vs Newcastle United presented in the English League Cup final at Wembley, Sunday (26/2/2023) evening WIB. Each team has its own obstacles towards this party.
The ‘Red Devils’ are threatened without Marcus Rashford, who suffered an injury against Barcelona in the second leg of the last 16 play-off Europa League. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s situation is no less complicated: the goalkeeper crisis.
Their top two goalkeepers, Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka, are confirmed to be absent. Pope was suspended for receiving a red card against Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend.
Then Martin Dubravka could not be played because he had previously appeared at this event with MU, when he was loaned out in the first half of the season. As a result, Eddie Howe is expected to rely on a third goalkeeper, Loris Karius.
The problem is for Newcastle, relying on Karius in a match as important as this is a very big gamble. There is still a big question mark about his mental strength after two fatal blunders with Liverpool in the 2017/2018 Champions League final.
His condition was not helped by playing minutes which are still zero at Newcastle United this season. Meaning it hasn’t faced a match atmosphere at all all season.
“That’s their problem. Of course we know about that,” said Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag about Loris Karius’ situation.
“Obviously it’s not an advantage for them. We have to test it, it’s quite clear,” he was quoted as saying Sky Sports.
