HARIANHALUAN.COM – Child and Family Psychologist Dra. Mira Amir emphasized that Covid-19 patients must be honest with the positive status of the corona virus which attacks their immunity.
“If we cover up it means being sad ourselves. On the other hand, if we are honest and happy it is half towards healing,” said Mira Amir in a talkshow “Removing the Stigma of Covid-19 Patients” at the Media Center of the Covid-19 Task Force in Graha BNPB Jakarta.
He also touched on the stigma of society towards Covid-19 patients. According to him, stigma is out of control because he thinks it is better to focus on something that can be changed or rearranged rather than thinking about negative statements that add to the burden.
“So it’s not thinking about these things because we can’t change those conditions. But we can arrange how to make conditions comfortable and happy,” said Mira.
One of the stories came from Covid-19 survivor Albert Ade, who admitted that he had refused when he tested positive for Covid-19. Moreover, the symptoms he experienced resembled dengue fever. But when it is stated positive the mind turns blank.
“The mind immediately went blank and only remembered the family when it was declared Covid,” he said.
Ade emphasized that he immediately contacted his family and neighborhood about his new status. This private television journalist also admits that some of his neighbors have rejected his status as a Covid-19 patient. Ade thought it was natural.
“There are also residents who are afraid, yes, that’s natural,” said Ade.
Even so, according to him, it’s natural to panic when we find out, but we have to think about what steps to take.
The same thing was also expressed by Covid-19 survivor Putri Octaviani. He panicked when he found out that it was positive for the first time. But he thought what steps needed to be done in the future.
Although not the first positive patient in the home environment, he said, the surrounding community did not fully understand Covid-19. “Previously, there were people who had it before me and the environment at home, there were those who did not understand this disease,” he concluded.
The Covid-19 Handling Task Force has constantly asked everyone to comply with health protocols, namely #pakaimasker, #jagajarak and avoid crowds, and #cucitangan using soap. This is the key to preventing the spread of Covid-19.
