“Let’s see if there is an agreement.” Post-Brexit talks resume – Abroad – News

“Let’s see if there is an agreement. At the moment, we can’t say whether it will be until the end of the week and whether it will be at all,” said the anonymous diplomat. “It’s getting too late.”

Michel Bernier, head of the EU negotiating delegation, and his British counterpart, David Frost, meet in Brussels on Monday, hoping to reach an agreement after eight months of negotiations.

The transition period following Britain’s withdrawal from the EU ends on 31 December, and both sides hope to conclude a new trade agreement by that date to avoid economic chaos.

The agreement needs to be concluded as soon as possible so that both parties can ratify it by the end of the year.
