The activity organized on the occasion of the World Pharmacist Day is organized every year under the aegis of the Pharmaceutical Federation. The goals of this year’s campaign are to promote the pharmacy profession, expose the positive impact of pharmacy on health around the world, and strengthen solidarity within the profession.
The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted progress in the health sector. It is imperative to ensure the role of pharmacists in the recovery process of the health sector in an optimal way. The primary task of any pharmacist is to use their skills and knowledge to support the advancement of world health and well-being. Pharmaceutical Federation President Dominic Jordan called for this duty to overcome organizational conflicts, political differences, cultures and economic disparities and show the world that pharmacists work together for health care.
World Pharmacist Day was recognized at the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences held in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2009. The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), a worldwide federation of national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, recognized the 25 September as Pharmacist’s Day. The aim of the day is to recognize and promote the role of pharmacists in improving health in all corners of the world.
Pharmacists have a vital role to play in ensuring patient safety by improving drug use and addressing inefficiencies in drug procurement. Many patients experience drug side effects that lead to permanent injury, length of health care, and sometimes death.
The main factor behind such accidents is the wrong prescription. Pharmacists have a vital role to play in reducing or eliminating this global challenge.
