Letizia of Spain left everyone breathless by showing up at the traditional reception for the Accredited Diplomatic Corps in Spain with a magnificent floral embroidered blouse and green satin skirt, created by Valentino in 1977 for Queen Sofia. Simply spectacular.
Letizia of Spain doesn’t just recycle her clothes, she also gives new life to her mother-in-law Sofia’s outfits and she does it wonderfully. As evidenced by the latest look sported at Palazzo dalla Reina.
Letizia of Spain breaks the rules
The reception with the diplomatic corps is always held in mid-January and is the second most formal appointment at the beginning of the year after the Military Easter which falls on the day of the Epiphany during which the Queen delights us with long and important dresses, usually in blue tones. For these Court appointments, Letizia is very attentive to the dress code that follows one can say scrupulously but for the meeting with the diplomats this year she wanted to make an exception.

Usually Letizia woman wears outfits in neutral tones, preferably dark ones, ranging from navy to burgundy and black. But Felipe’s wife decided to break the rules by showing up with a light chiffon bodice cream-colored, round neck, with transparent puffed sleeves and pink floral embroidery with green leaves.

Letizia combined the extremely elegant top with a wide forest green satin skirt, with a pink high-waisted belt. The look sported by Reina is signed Valentino Haute Couture and was created by the Italian designer for Queen Sofia who wore it in 1977 during a state trip to Germany. Compared to her mother-in-law’s original outfit, Reina has changed some details. For example, she did without the bow at the waist, just as she gave up the necklace, preferring to leave the neck free. No clutch, because for the event at the Palazzo it was not necessary, as well as the sash of honor.
Letizia completed her vintage outfit with a pair of powder-colored shoes with a high platform and the ears of rubies and emeralds, which reflect the colors of the suit, created by Tous. Finally, Letizia opted for a more modern hairstyle: the high ponytail which is one of her favorite hairstyles allowing her to keep her hair neat and perfect that she takes care of with a special treatment.
However, it is not the first time that Letizia “loots” Queen Sofia’s wardrobe. In fact, it was only last September that she showed up for the meeting with the President of Chile wearing another mother-in-law suit, signed María Malo. Juan Carlos’s wife had worn it in 1981 during a visit to Rome.
