After Mad Max, the second film franchise that made Mel Gibson famous was the Lethal Weapon series. From 1987 to 1998, four action films were released, and now, more than ten years later, the actor started talking about the possibility of a sequel.

Edition Deadline citing sources close to the movie star, reports that Gibson is in talks to film Lethal Weapon 5, and as a director and lead actor.

It is noted that the director of the franchise, Richard Donner, with whom Gibson developed the sequel, died in the summer of 2021, and now the actor sees it as his mission to complete this work as a tribute to his late colleague.

Nothing is known about a future fifth film, other than that it will be filmed for the streaming service HBO Max.
