Let the US Crawl & Apply

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev again issued a controversial statement. This time, he said that the United States (US) should be begging Russia all the way to the bottom for discussions about reducing nuclear weapons.

In his statement, Medvedev said the nuclear reduction agreement he signed in 2010 with President Barack Obama was dead. He even views that relations between the US and Russia have died since Washington gave support to Ukraine and imposed a series of sanctions against his country.

“There is no need to negotiate with them (about nuclear disarmament). This is bad for Russia,” said Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council. ReutersWednesday (22/6/2022).

“Let them run or crawl back and ask for it.”

Russia and the US control about 90% of the world’s nuclear warheads. They each have around 4,000 warheads in their military stockpile.

Medvedev, who as president sought to position himself as a reformer and wanted good relations with the West, is currently suggesting that Moscow should be tougher with Washington.

Referring to Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev’s actions at the UN General Assembly, Medvedev said that in fact there was still another way to return talks on the deal.

“There is another proven method of communicating with America on this topic – with shoes on the UN pulpit. It used to work.”

Medvedev himself was President of Russia from 2008 to 2012. During his tenure, the current President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, served as Prime Minister (PM).

In Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Medvedev, who is also a close ally of Putin, gave his support for the action. Recently, he wasn’t even so sure that his neighboring country would still exist in the next two years.

“I saw reports that Ukraine wants to receive LNG (liquefied natural gas) under a loan agreement from overseas masters with payment for delivery within two years,” he said.

“And who said that in two years, Ukraine will even be on the world map?”
