The Breda coalition parties VVD, D66 and PvdA want the catering industry in the city to be involved in the Fieldlab experiment 538 Orange Day on Saturday 24 April. “Maybe they can take care of the catering at the event? I just really want the catering industry to benefit too,” says VVD councilor Eddie Förster about the controversial event.
The Breda catering industry also raised the alarm earlier. They find it incomprehensible that the catering industry has been closed for months, but that 10,000 people can attend a test event.

The three parties are also concerned about where the party is planned, the Chasséveld in the center of the city. They want to know from the college whether it could not be done elsewhere, for example in the Breepark.

Fewer visitors?
The hustle and bustle in the city is also a major concern for the parties. Eddie Förster: “10,000 people in the city is really a lot.” The coalition parties ask the Commission whether it has also been considered to allow fewer visitors. They are concerned about the idea that even people without a ticket can go to the party area to have a look. They also wonder whether it is possible to make the Oranjefeest accessible only to people from Breda.

They also fear that the party will create two groups in society: people who are concerned about the corona virus and their health, and people who want more and more freedom. They want the Commission to see how these groups can be prevented from confronting each other.
