Let Kapok! 2,400 Online Stores Blocked by the Trade Minister

Jakarta

Minister of Trade (Mendag) Muhammad Lutfi Bukabukaan has taken firm action against thousands of online shops. Exactly 2,400 online shops have been blocked because they sell drugs without a doctor’s prescription or without a BPOM permit.

“There are also many incidents online where drugs are purchased without a doctor’s prescription. It is against the law. So that’s what we did yesterday, we closed it. We ordered the market shop not to install it instead of the market shop selling drugs without a doctor’s prescription or without permission to issue drugs these drugs,” said Lutfi.

“There are 2,400 shops that we take down, meaning they are no longer selling,” said Lutfi in a meeting with Commission IV of the DPR RI, Thursday (26/8/2021).

Lutfi explained that actually, anything related to drugs and oxygen is a matter for the Ministry of Health and the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM). He said this includes issues of import, production, distribution permits and distribution of medicines.

However, because the problem of medicines being sold is in online shops or market shops, it is indeed the responsibility of the Ministry of Trade.

“But it also intersects with the Directorate General of Consumer Protection. If we see online that it’s not true, we can close it, because at the market workshop it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Trade,” he explained.
