In the years 1950-1957 he was a journalist in many newspapers in the capital, including: “Trybuna Ludu”, “Wieś”, “Życie Warszawy” and “Dookoła Świat”. At that time, he also edited company magazines, such as: “Komunard” and “Budujemy Trakt Starej Warszawy”.

In 1952, he graduated from law studies at the University of Warsaw. In 1957 he was arrested for the first time. He was accused of providing the Western press with information about the internal situation in the Polish People’s Republic, influencing the negative image of the authorities in Poland in the West.

In 1958, pursuant to the decision of the Provincial Court, which declared him innocent, he was released from custody. In the same year he graduated in history from the University of Warsaw. After leaving prison, he worked for Telewizja Polska for a short time, and then received a two-year ban (1958-1960) from performing journalistic work. The 1960s were a period when Moczulski devoted himself to underground work, establishing numerous contacts with representatives of the pre-war Piłsudski community, including: with Gen. Roman Abraham, a veteran of the army of the Second Polish Republic. In subsequent works, Moczulski emphasized his inspirations from the Piłsudski community.

From 1961, he headed the historical department in the weekly “Stolica”; in the years 1962-1970 he was the head of the Historical Action. In the 1970s, he was an open activist of the so-called convent (1971-1979), and at the same time a member of the secret “Romb” cell, which was the leadership of the so-called independence trend.

He was a co-founder of the Movement for the Defense of Human and Citizens’ Rights, established in March 1977. As one of two spokespersons, he played the role of an informal leader – alongside Andrzej Czuma, the other spokesman. He was the editor of the “Opinia” magazine. After its establishment, ROPCiO was subjected to numerous repressions by the communist authorities; In total, he was detained approximately 250 times.

In September 1979, he founded his own political party called the Confederation of Independent Poland, whose goal was to regain full independence. In 1980 he was arrested. Two years later he was sentenced to 7 years in prison. Released under an amnesty in 1984. In another trial in 1985, he was sentenced to 4 years, released in 1986. In 1987, he left for the West. He met, among others, with US Vice President George HW Bush.

He criticized the round table discussions. In 1990, he ran for president; from 2.5 percent votes took last place.

In the years 1991-1997 he was a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. In 1998 he retired.

He was the author of numerous political programs and brochures from the 1970s and 1980s: “Program 44” (1976), “Revolution without Revolution” (1979), “Strike Fight in Poland – Year 1980” (1980), “The Third Polish Republic. Outline”. political system” (1984), “Landscape before the battle” (1987).

He also wrote many history books, including: “Claws of the Black Eagle” (1969), “Dilemmas. Introduction to the political history of Western Europe 1945-70” (1971), “Polish War 1939” (1972), “Geopolitics. Power in time and space” (1999), “Birth Intermarium” (2008).

In 2015, President Bronisław Komorowski awarded Leszek Moczulski the Grand Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
