“Less than 6% of Homes in San Luis Potosí Have Insurance – Why You Should Consider Getting One”

Although it is one of the most important and least expensive, less than 6% of homes in San Luis Potosí have insurance, said Raúl Zacarías Flores, spokesman for the Mexican Association of Insurance and Bond Agents AC (AMASFAC).

Zacarías Flores indicated that the four insurances that a citizen must contract are auto, major medical expenses, housing and life; of them, the most sought after is car, medical expenses boomed with the pandemic as people realized how expensive hospitalization is, while life insurance has little interest, and housing “very little or almost nothing”.

And it is that he estimated that in San Luis Potosí, only between 4 and 6% of the homes are insured, “and the best is a lot”, added to the fact that of that meager percentage, around 90% have insurance because they have contracted a mortgage credit.

The inconvenience with which the houses are insured by the mortgage credit, is that this insurance only covers the amount that has been paid on the debt, “that is, if the house is worth 2 million pesos and I have paid one million, when there is a sinister such as an earthquake or a fire and the house is completely damaged, they will only compensate me for a million pesos”.

He stressed that housing policies are cheap compared to the coverage that is granted, for example, insurance for a house of one million pesos, can cost a thousand pesos a year, and increases according to the value of the house.

An important aspect of home insurance is that they cover civil liability, so medical care can be covered when someone suffers an accident at home, or for example if there is a fire and it affects the neighbors, the policy covers that damage To thirds.

It is estimated that at the national level, less than 10% of homes are insured, so he invited the population to approach insurance agents and ask about this type of coverage.
