Less than 500 active cases of COVID-19 in Laval

The Laval report now points to 438 active cases of COVID-19 according to data issued by the Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) of Laval.

This represents a drop of 114 active cases from last week.

It should be remembered, however, that the general population now obtains rapid screening tests and that screening centers offer PCR tests only to certain groups of the population, which may explain such a variation in the data from the last 16 reports.

In total, 71,046 Laval residents (+251) have contracted the virus since the start of the pandemic. Of these, 1,103 (+4) have sadly died from it, while 69,505 (+361) have now recovered.

Hospitalizations have also shown a decline in the past seven days. There are still 53 Laval citizens (-16) hospitalized due to the virus, including 7 in intensive care.

The CISSS de Laval also specified that 85 employees in its network are absent from work in connection with COVID-19.

Vaccination

As of May 11, 85.9% of all Laval residents have received at least one dose of vaccine. 83.1%% were adequately vaccinated. In absolute numbers, Île Jésus has had 970,244 doses administered since the start of the operation.

This is the ninth highest provincial total behind Montreal (4,827,306), Montérégie (3,205,001), Capitale-Nationale (1,790,306), Laurentides (1,410,212), Mauricie and Centre-du -Quebec (1,205,849), Lanaudière (1,169,791), Estrie (1,146,493) and Chaudière-Appalaches (1,018,867).

It should also be noted that only 55.4% of young Laval residents aged 5 to 11 have received at least one dose of vaccine since the launch of the operation targeting this age group. This is the second lowest percentage in the province.

In the sectors

All Laval sectors have posted a drop in active cases over the past week.

The Vimont and Auteuil sector experienced the greatest decrease with 34 fewer people carrying the virus. He is now the one with the best record on Jesus Island in absolute figures (72 active cases).

The Pont-Viau, Renaud-Coursol and Laval-des-Rapides sector (-15), as well as that of Fabreville-Est and Sainte-Rose (-26) both show the lowest infection rate in the territory with 86 active cases per 100,000 population.

Conversely, Chomedey (-24) remains the most affected sector in these two categories with 114 people carrying the virus and an infection rate of 120 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The sector of Duvernay, Saint-François and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (-7) is the only other in Laval that still shows an infection rate of more than a hundred with 108 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

That of Sainte-Dorothée, Laval-Ouest, Laval-Les Îles, Fabreville-Ouest and Laval-sur-le-Lac (-8) is experiencing a more modest decline after a decrease of 53 active cases in May 10 weekly review.
