Almost all covid patients who were recently hospitalized were therefore not (yet) fully vaccinated. There has been a notable increase among 20 to 39-year-olds being hospitalized after a corona infection, but many of them, especially the youngest in that age group, have not yet had the chance to get a vaccine or have only one. shot and are not fully protected. Epidemiologist Boudewijn Catry van Sciensano expects hospital admissions among them to drop once they are fully immunized.
The epidemiologist also notes that the vaccination rate in 25-34 year olds is slowing down. According to him, a little extra effort will have to be made to convince them to get vaccinated. Extra efforts are also needed in Brussels to persuade people to have themselves vaccinated.
Eighty percent vaccinated
Eight out of ten adults in Belgium have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. The number of fully vaccinated people stands at just over 7.5 million. That corresponds to 65.2 percent of the entire population. In adults, the 80 percent mark has been reached.
Nearly 8.25 million people have already received at least a first shot. This corresponds to 71.6 percent of the entire population, while among adults it is 84.3 percent.
Flanders is just a little further along in the vaccination campaign. Just under 70 percent of the entire population is fully vaccinated and over 85 percent of adults.
In the meantime, minors (from the age of 12) have also been vaccinated in Belgium for several weeks now. In the 12-17 age group, 18 percent have now been fully vaccinated, about 60 percent received at least a first shot.
