Less than 1% of those vaccinated are infected, according to the Russian Minister of Health

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said today that no vaccine provides total immunity against covid-19, but stressed that less than 1% of vaccinated people are infected with the new coronavirus.

“Of course, there is no vaccine that protects one hundred percent. There is a small risk of getting sick ”. Among those vaccinated, those infected with the coronavirus “are less than 0.8% percent,” Murashko said in an interview with the official TASS agency.

He added that the vast majority of vaccinated people who contract COVID-19 do not need to be hospitalized, since the disease occurs with mild symptoms, except in the cases of patients with autoimmune diseases or serious infections.

“We always assess the risks. Those of vaccinated patients are minimal. That is why we speak of collective responsibility. If more of us are vaccinated, the risks (of getting sick) for people are reduced to a minimum ”, underlined the head of Health.

Although Russia has four self-produced anticovid vaccines – the bidosis Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona and CoviVac, and the single-dose Sputnik Light – the vaccination campaign in the country, which began in January this year, is progressing slowly, mainly due to reluctance of the population to be vaccinated.

A survey carried out last May by the Levada Center revealed that 62% of Russians are not willing to be vaccinated with Sputnik V, the main preparation used in the vaccination campaign and that, according to its developers, it has an efficacy of the 97%.

According to the Russian authorities, about 15 million people, just over 10% of the population, have already been vaccinated against covid-19 with the full schedule and another three million have received the first dose.

“In June we are going to produce 20 million doses per month. We have enough to vaccinate the entire population. And we are going to reach 60% of people vaccinated in Russia in September, “said Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday in an interview with the main international news agencies, including Efe.

Russia, the sixth country in the world by the number of registered infections, accumulates today 5,126,437 cases of covid-19 and 123,787 deaths from this disease, of which 351 in the last twenty-four hours.
