“Less serious effects, we have the evidence”

The World Health Organization (WHO) said it has new evidence that the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus affects the upper respiratory tract and for this causes less severe effects than previous variants. The WHO emergency manager Abdi Mahamud said at a press conference in Geneva, explaining that in some places there is also a relationship between the growth of infections and the decline in deaths.

“We are seeing in more and more studies that the Omicron variant infects the upper body,” said Mahamud, adding that “this might be good news, but we need more studies to prove it.”
