Less overweight children with school lunch and exercise

Decrease in obesity

According to the report, obesity in children between the ages of four and eighteen can decrease by 3.3 percent to 10.2 percent in 2040. Obesity is expected to decrease from 0.5 percent to 2.3 percent in 2040.

The report also states that parents, children and primary schools have a positive attitude towards a healthy school lunch and more exercise at school, in order to combat obesity. The parents are willing to pay 1.75 euros per day per child.

Financial support

There is one small problem, however. The costs for a lunch in combination with extra exercise activities are 4.50 per day. The willingness of the parents to deposit 1.75 per child does not cover all costs. Therefore, additional financial support is needed, the study said.

Schoollunch

Lunching together can be good in the form of an ‘even more lunch’, the report states. This means that the children prepare a healthy lunch themselves at school. According to the study, children eat more fruit, vegetables and brown bread through such an even more lunch. They also drink more milk and water and fewer sugary drinks.

With regard to more exercise, schools can, for example, insert more exercise moments between lessons. For extra sports and games activities, the help of after-school care staff and neighborhood sports coaches can be called in.
