To add a study about craniofacial, Lecturer faculty of Dentistry (FCG) Airlangga University (Unair) I Gusti Aju Wahju Ardani released three new books.
Ardani said that craniofacial studies are still minimally studied in Indonesia.

What is Craniofacial Science?
Craniofacial science in general is the science of plastic Surgery that shape and enhance a person’s function and appearance in the facial bones, head, and soft tissues.

Highlighting the study, the three books were launched simultaneously in May 2021 by Airlangga University Press (AUP).
First book entitled ‘Fundamentals of Growth’ Craniofacial After Birth’ which contains the basic theory of facial growth.
The second book is entitled ‘Theory of Craniofacial Bone Growth’, while the third book is entitled ‘Craniofacial Growth After Birth’.

These three books try to highlight theories of bone growth that have not been widely studied in Indonesia so far.
“Reading material about craniofacials in Indonesia is generally still dominated by books and studies from Western countries. In fact, every nation and race has different facial bone characteristics,” explained the Orthodontic Department lecturer as quoted from the Unair website, Sunday (6/6). /2021).
Add study of craniofacial science
According to him, apart from being a reading material, the book, which was written in just three months, is also useful for lectures and study references in the craniofacial field.
Moreover, the second book specifically discusses various craniofacial theories that still have the potential to be explored and developed.
“The science of facial bone development is very complex. It took a long time to develop the theory. That’s why some colleagues and alumni actually had contact, wanted to ask for this book and use it for lectures or research purposes, “he explained.

Despite receiving a positive response, Ardani admitted that it took him a year to edit the book before it could be released.
The three books were originally a unit. However, due to the large number of pages, it ended up being divided into three sections.
Building a unified theory
On the other hand, the book is actually an old dream of Ardani who is very interested in craniofacial studies.
“Not many academics are interested in this discussion. However, due to academic demands and the desire of some of my students for material that is easier to understand, I finally made my dream come true,” explained Ardani.

Ardani hopes that the three books can contribute to the development of craniofacial studies in Indonesia, such as in Western countries.
In addition, this book builds a unified theory which is expected to be a useful academic reference for national dentistry personnel.
