less heating and electricity to fight the energy crisis

The City of Villeurbanne announced in a press release that it intends to limit its energy consumption by lowering heating in particular.

To combat climate change and the fight against energy, the City of Villeurbanne indicated this Thursday, the changes for the city. “Convinced that we have an important role to play in this matter”, the municipality wants to make energy sobriety one of its main objectives “Ecological transition plan”.

Therefore, classrooms, cultural buildings and offices will be heated to 19 degrees while gyms will be heated to 14 degrees. According to the municipality, this generates a saving of 7% on the heating bill. Also, the warm-up will begin thirty minutes later in the morning and gradually decrease one hour earlier in the evening. The pools and swimming pools will see their temperature drop by one degree while public buildings will be shut down from 8pm and the City Hall will only stay lit for an extra hour.

Through these measures, the municipality of Villeurbanne intends to reduce its energy consumption by at least 10% by 2024. The press release explains in particular that heating represents 67% of its expenditure. Electricity accounts for 23%, followed by public lighting at 8% and fuels at 2%. Work will also be carried out on the most energy-intensive buildings.

Without changes in use and without interventions on the plants, the 2023 expenditure could amount to 7.5 million euros, with an increase of 50% compared to 2022.
