Legal and social requirements make it difficult to raise animals in the region. Meat consumption is also declining, but not to the same extent as meat production.

The region produces less and less meat. The number of farms that raise cattle and pigs has been declining continuously for years. Farmers especially blame legal requirements, but also social changes.
