Lesmo weeps for Doctor Sordo

Doctor Sergio Sordo, 80 years old, a doctor and surgeon of great fame, as well as a prominent man in the Lesmese political scene, passed away on Saturday. Born in Trento in 1940, Sordo soon moved to Brianza, where he began his career as a general practitioner. In the years to come he took up residence in Monza, rising to luminary of surgery within the walls of the city hospital and later also of the Zucchi clinic.

The political career

The unconditional esteem of his community led him, once he moved to Lesmo, to appear on the political scene under the banner of the Christian Democrats and worked as councilor for public works from 1985 to 1990. He was part of the municipal administration also during the subsequent term of the then mayor Giovanni Redaelli, until 1992, the year of the sudden fall of the Executive. Sordo then reappeared in the elections also in 1993, this time as candidate for mayor of the “Popular Center” project, but the ballot boxes did not satisfy him. In 1994 he also attempted the great leap in national politics, running for the Senate in the “Pact for Italy” list, with no luck. As in 1997, when he reappeared, as a candidate for councilor, in the electoral round of the Municipality of Lesmo, from which he was once again defeated. In 2002, at the end of his second term in the ranks of the minority, he decided to leave political activity, while always remaining a valid point of reference for the moderates of the country.
