Leslie Grace first responds to deleted ‘Batgirl’: “Yes, there were obstacles. But the movie I saw was unbelievable” | Movie

FilmFor Leslie Grace (28), ‘Batgirl’ was supposed to be her first superhero film, but Warner Bros. decided to do that. in August last year. The film by director duo Adil and Bilall was scrapped before the first version was ready. A heavy blow, the actress now tells Variety. “We’re still talking about a sequel.”

The news that ‘Batgirl’ would be scrapped came as a complete surprise to cast & crew. Leading actress Leslie Grace was also unaware of the plans, she says in Variety. “I found out like all of you, through The New York Post. It felt like a balloon being deflated,” she says. “I tried to take it all in that day, but I was also so sure of the magic of what had happened: what I had experienced and what I saw in the cast, on our team, so I thought, ‘This must be something crazy that we have no control over.'”

Obstacles

One of the reasons cited for scrapping ‘Batgirl’ was that the film would be “unpublishable”. That’s not right, according to Grace. “I’m not going to lie, every film faces obstacles, and ours was no different. Half of the shooting took place at night in Scotland, where it never stops raining. So yes, there were obstacles. But thanks to the great crew, nothing stood in the way of delivering what we wanted. Anyway, as far as I could see.”

The actress adds that she explicitly asked to watch the film. “That’s all I asked for,” he said. Though what she saw was far from finished. “There were a lot of scenes that weren’t even in it yet. They were still at the beginning of the assembly, and they couldn’t continue working because of everything that was going on in the company. But the movie I saw – the scenes that were there – was incredible. It certainly had potential for a good movie, in my opinion. Maybe we’ll be able to see clips of it later.”

Sequel

In April last year – when the recordings had just finished – Grace already told Variety that she was already talking about a sequel to ‘Batgirl’ with the directors – our compatriots Adil and Bilall. “And we still do,” she reveals. “We’re so excited about the ideas we had because you can really see the long-term potential in the story we started building.”

Directors Adil and Bilall already said last year how the cancellation of ‘Batgirl’ was a real shock – with very bad timing, moreover. Adil had just celebrated his marriage to Loubna Khalkhali and was going on his honeymoon. “Will Smith was still in Morocco when the news came, I went to talk to him. “What should we do?” I asked. He just said ‘Don’t go on social media’ and I did. I didn’t let it ruin my honeymoon. Loubna and I certainly enjoyed it. And in the end, nobody died”, said Adil in this newspaper. “We are sorry for the actors, the crew, for everyone who gave the best of themselves. Also for us. Come on, we were directing Batman. The Michael Keaton. Shit, say!” The directors also emphasize that there was nothing really wrong with the film. “When you’re done running, you make a first version. After that, scenes are still missing, you need to recann recorded scenes, add music, VFX. So in the very first version there is nada of all that. And just that version of ‘Batgirl’ was shown to a test audience,” Bilall said. “So it was clearly a financial decision, accounting. It wasn’t the quality of the film. That has to be said again and again.”
