In an interview given to ParisianLesley Ugochukwu looks back on her transfer from Stade Rennes to Chelsea.
“At first I thought I would spend the whole season with Rennes, but football goes quickly,” explains the midfielder trained at SRFC. Chelsea had been following me for a while. This summer, there were phone calls between the club and me, it went well and we decided to move forward (…) In relation to my ambitions too, I think it was perfect to leave at that time. They say I can become a great midfielder, if I put in the work and everything goes well. It’s up to me to prove that I can have my place in the long term. I wanted to take this step. »
A departure for the Premier League and a big club while being too young? That’s not his opinion: “You’re definitely thinking. Regarding your career, you say to yourself that it might be good to stay and settle into your training club. But like I said, it’s the kind of opportunity you can’t turn down. I have great confidence in myself, in my qualities, in what I can do. I know that if I do things correctly, everything will go as planned. I have the trust of the club, of the staff, that’s what pushed me to say to myself: Go ahead! If they came for you, it’s because you have the qualities. »
