Les Éleutètes: Gallic War Reconstruction Society from Cantal Making Waves in Historical Events

Since 2018, Les Éleutètes, a historical reconstruction society based in Aurillac, has increased its activities and events to raise awareness of a little-known history: Cantal during the Gallic War.

For the second year in a row, Les Éleutètes, a historical reconstruction society that worked during the Gallic War in Cantal, participated in the Roman Days of Nîmes from May 3 to 5. After the Vercingétorix exhibition in 2023 , this year they worked on Germanicus and the reconstruction of the Battle of Teutoburg, with more than 300 reenactors hand-picked from all over France and Italy.

So he was for once dressed as Germans who were about fifteen Gauls from Cantal fighting in the fields of Nîmes, for three days, and in front of 27,000 people. Created in 2018, this Aurillac association has since grown serially, despite Covid-19, with the reward of participating in the Roman Days of Nîmes and the Gallic Festival of Serpaize (Isère).

These events gave the Eleuthetes the opportunity to invest especially in an exact reproduction of Tintignac’s carnyx, a Gallic war horn with a boar’s head, measuring two meters high, made of bronze and found at excavation period in Corrèze.The Gauls of Cantal can be found this year at the multi-time festival of Laroquebrou, which they co-organise, on the weekend of July 20, at the basket festival in Montsalvy, the following week, then at the Fête Gauloise de Tintignac ( Corrèze), 3 August. The association is recruiting, its news can be followed on Facebook by searching for Les Éleutètes.
