The international elite will gather from 20 to 23 October at the national velodrome of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines for the world track cycling championships. Organized by the French Handisport Federation, under the aegis of the UCI, this competition promises to be crucial in the points race for the next 2024 Paralympic Games, which will take place on the same site. As for the Disabled Blues, after the good results in Tokyo, with 5 medals conquered including 2 titles, a 4th place in the nations ranking at the 2020 Track World Championships in Canada, the French team will want to continue its ascent. at home, in front of his audience! With 18 athletes (including 3 pilots) involved, the French team is ambitious! The Italian staff has bet on an enlarged group with two objectives: to continue collecting points for Paris 2024, and to allow young riders, such as Gatien Le Rousseau, Florian Chapeau or Heidi Gaugain to gain experience on a reference event.
Leader at the appointment!
Among the favorites we will find in the arena all our medalists from the last Tokyo Paralympic Games. Marie Patouillet, Alexandre Leauté, Dorian Foulon, Raffaele Beaugilletwhich will all have the aim of confirming and aiming for the titles!
“At the end of the road world championship in Canada last August, the pilots were able to rest to calmly continue their preparation for the world championships in October with three five-day training courses at the Roubaix velodrome. Runners are in good dynamics, engaged and motivated to perform at home. With 18 athletes (including 3 pilots) involved, we bet on a larger group with two objectives: to continue to collect points for Paris 2024, but also to allow our young riders, such as Gatien Le Rousseau, Florian Chapeau, Heidi Gaugain to be able to to gain experience on a landmark event. I would also like to focus on our tandems, with the presence of a young female duo for which we aim for a top 8, the continuation of the story with great podium chances for Raphaël Beaugillet and his new driver Quentin Caleyron (who takes over from François Pervis ), without forgetting the Lloveras / Gressier duo that is gaining momentum on the track. As for our leaders, Marie Patouillet, Dorian Foulon, Alexandre Léauté, the goal will be to confirm their good results at the Games in search of titles. Kévin Le Cunff will want to cancel 4th place in Tokyo and let him talk about his speed on the podium! ” Mathieu JEANNE, national coach

In the continuity of this summer’s world road para-cycling, the French team continues its construction. The latest results bode well for the Blues, who are approaching the end of the world championship with determination and serenity. With 18 riders, we will have an expanded and high potential tricolor selection from 20 to 23 October at the Vélodrome National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. This competition will be synonymous with a dress rehearsal for athletes, management, clubs, media, partners and the general public in the arena that will host the track events two years from now during the Paris 2024 Games. Our ambition will be to obtain the most beautiful metal and we know all the potential of our athletes. From now on, each competition is a step towards our goal, Paris 2024. The entire Handisport Federation (elected officials, volunteers, employees, technicians, etc.) is with its French team.
Norbert KRANTZ, High Performance Manager / Summer Sports
For 2 years now, the French para-cycling team has surprised us with the brilliance of its results and the ability it demonstrates to become more and more powerful. Just a few months ago he won 17 medals, 7 of which gold in Baie Comeau, during the World Road Championships; today the World Championships on track are at home. No doubt this team will amaze us again; masterfully led by Laurent Thirionet and Mathieu Jeanne, I assume he will be able to collect a good crop of medals at home. We present a team dense in terms of performance and at the same time full of new faces; they shouldn’t let us down. Our ambition here, as elsewhere, is to confirm our rank among the 3 largest nations in the world. With an audience that we hope will be large, the party should be beautiful.
