Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane had an up-and-down first season in Bavaria, but the former Manchester City player is still happy that he made the move.
“I know that I haven’t played an outstanding season at Bayern. For me it was a bit more difficult due to the corona break and my knee injury,” Sane said to SPOX journalist Kerry Hau, Abendzeitung’s Maximiliam Koch, and others earlier (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “It was important to me to get back my rhythm, which I managed to do.”
As for how he feels ahead of the European Championships, Sane is confident and healthy.
“I’m feeling very, very good. I’m fit and that’s the most important thing for me,” said Sane.

Germany will need Sane at his best if it wants to compete with France, who is expected by many to win the Euros.
“The big favorite is France. But other teams will not underestimate us, they know what quality we have. We definitely have experience and a good mix of old and young,” Sane said.
Another German who could make a big impact in the tourney is midfielder Leon Goretzka. Goretzka, of course, is battling his way back after an injury and Sane said his club teammate is making progress.
“He will be in good condition when the tournament starts. He’s working hard. I spoke to him recently and he told me that he was feeling good,” Sane said.
Some have wondered if there are any lingering mental effects from being left off of the ill-fated 2018 World Cup squad, but Sane indicated that was all water under the bridge at this point.
“I’m not thinking about that anymore at all. That’s completely over. I’m a guy who looks ahead,” said Sane.
