Former CSKA football player Maxim Bokov said that Leonid Slutsky’s decision to continue his coaching career in China can be compared to a “knight’s move.”

Last week, Shanghai Shenhua announced the appointment of Slutsky as head coach.

— I think that he will be able to attract the attention of Russian football fans. Because any of our compatriots, whether he plays or coaches in another country, attracts attention. Again, there will be a lot of talk and discussion, but this is another knight’s move. I don’t know whether it will work out or not… This is a different culture that you need to adapt to,” Bokov told Euro-football.ru.

Slutsky’s last place of work was Rubin Kazan, which he left at the end of 2022. From 2009 to 2016, the coach worked for CSKA, which led to three Russian Championship titles and two Russian Cup victories.
