Leondingen-based company invests 40 million euros

This will create around 60 new jobs, reported the managing directors Wolfgang Lux and Konstantin Urbanides in a press conference with LR Markus Achleitner (ÖVP) on Wednesday.

The company owes its record sales to increased investments in the private and public sectors and the boom in the construction industry. “A year ago we had short-time working, the machines were idle and today the order books are full to the brim”, said Lux. The slumps in France, Italy and southern Europe had succeeded, and contrary to expectations, the second quarter of 2020 turned out to be stable. Urbanides added that the short-time work lasted only one month instead of 3 months and 3 months for employees. Lux spoke of humility and respect when looking at others such as the hotel industry, gastronomy and culture.

Like the entire industry, they are currently affected by a shortage of raw materials, although 2021 got off to an excellent start, according to Lux.

Between 2016 and 2020, 46 million euros were invested in the development and production site in Leonding, and another 30 to 40 million euros are to follow by the end of 2025. This year, 9 million euros – entirely from cash flow – are planned, said Urbanides. A photovoltaic system over 3,000 square meters was acquired back in January with the help of the investment bonus.

“With this investment package, we are excellently positioned for our purely organic growth path and our goal of achieving sales of 130 million euros by 2025,” it said. 2020 was used to focus on fewer countries – the main markets of Austria, Germany, France, Italy and Scandinavia – with a strategic realignment.

The goal is to create innovative, higher-priced products in the future in order to stand out from the Asian imports and to assert themselves against them, explained Lux, referring to only four complaints out of a million products shipped, which corresponds to the quality level of medical products. The managing director sees enormous future potential, especially in the German market with a very high demand for apartments.

In terms of investments, Urbanides announced two focal points: expansion (especially in injection molding capacities and new systems) and development (digitization and automation). 15 employees are currently entrusted with the further development, he emphasized. It is about developing products that can be protected by patents, explained Lux. Sustainability is also a focus. All products are 100 percent recyclable, and the recycled material is used for high-tech products.

Regional Economic Councilor Markus Achleitner (ÖVP) saw the investment as a powerful engine for Upper Austria as a location for plastics. 220 companies with 38,000 employees in the state are already generating a turnover of 11.5 billion euros and thus half of the entire Austrian turnover.

Poloplast develops and produces plastic pipe systems for building services, sewer systems and water supply. Reference projects are the music theater and the Lux Tower in Linz as well as Frankfurt Airport. The majority of the pipes are installed in the house drain of single and multi-family houses in new buildings and renovations. In 2020 there were more than 250,000 residential units.
