Leonardo-Rheinmetall, announcement of the agreement at the beginning of the week

The joint venture between Leonardo and Rheinmetall on military ground vehicles is nearing completion. The release is expected, according to what Radiocor reports, early next week. The joint venture should be 50-50 between the Italian group (50%) and the German one (Rheinmetall Italia) 10%, parent company Duesseldorf 40%), based in Italy.

The collaboration platform

The first objective of the alliance is industrial cooperation for the supply programs of new heavy tanks to the Italian Army, based on the Panther model of the German group, and of the tracked combat vehicle for infantry, based on the Lynx also from Rheinmetall: the total value of the two programs is over 20 billion euros in ten years. But the declared intention of the two partners is also to focus on exports and, in recent months, the CEO of Rheinmetall Armin Papperger has emphasized the interest that has already been gathered from some shippers -possible purchase.

The strategic agreement – the subject of the memorandum signed in July by the CEO of Leonardo, Roberto Cingolani, and Papperger himself – is also intended to lay the foundations for participation in the development of the main European ground combat system in the era to coming

From a management point of view, the jv – as indicated in the last few days by Leonardo’s general director, Lorenzo Mariani – will be led by a managing director identified by the Italian partner, and will Rheinmetall celebrates the president.
