Leonardo Bonucci has sent a heartfelt message to Juventus fans after his move to Union Berlin, calling his time in Turin the “greatest chapter” of his life.
The 36-year-old was unceremoniously dropped from Massimiliano Allegri’s Turin squad this summer, remaining in Italy on his pre-season tour of the United States.
Bonucci has entered the final year of his contract with Juventus and the club have made it clear they want him to leave before the end of the summer, keen to remove his high salary from their books.
Speaking in a video on his Instagram page, Bonucci spoke about his time at Juventus and bid farewell to the supporters.
“My name is Leonardo Bonucci and I have been a professional footballer for 19 years. During this long period of commitment and dedication, I know that I have been a divisive person and that is why all the love I have received has always been mixed with so much more. Slaps and hugs.
“Today, true to myself, I look you, fans and judges, in the eye, because a story like this deserves respect. What we achieved together, time said was not easy to build, and it won’t be easy to repeat but the heart is capable of great memory, you know that.
“Today, fans, Bianconeri, the greatest chapter of my life ends. I dreamed of a fair ending, the chance to close it with you, unfortunately it won’t happen but time, once again , will be our friend, I am sure of that.
“Tomorrow, which is already here now, I will always be the same Leonardo, the same Bonucci.”
Bonucci was strongly linked with both Lazio and Genoa but eventually decided to join Union Berlin, where he signed a one-year contract. His family remained in Italy, a sign of his initial desire to continue in Serie A.
