“I can only tell you about work, because I work and work. There is such a period now. My main job is at the Latvian Academy of Culture. In November, the work on a wonderful master’s project “Creative Public Environment” was completed, in which four universities were involved. The name of the project was “Leave a comment about Liepāja!”. Anyone interested could see the work of these master’s students in Liepaja, Stūrmanu Street 1,” says Ķestere-Kļaviņa about her professional success in an interview with “Kas Jauns” magazine.
Few professionals manage ambitious projects
She also works at the Museum of Writing and Music, where she is the head of cooperation and development. Asked if she does not get tired of such ambitious work responsibilities, with the remark that she could refrain from a project, she explains: “We know that there are extremely few professional and experienced employees. Therefore, it is only normal that people like me, who have carried out huge projects – the production and management of international programs, performances, operas, ballets and international festivals of the centenary of the Latvian state – work a lot. Fate has decided that I have to work with extremely bright people, wonderful cooperation partners, and nothing could be done without the team. It is only normal that I continue to work professionally, to raise a great new generation from the students of the Academy of Culture.”
Actergenes was inherited by her granddaughter
On the other hand, in her free time from work and projects, Leonarda films. “In the summer, I filmed in the historical series “Sisī”, which was filmed in the Rundāle Palace. I played Countess von Metternich, who once devoted a lot of time to diplomatic relations between the royal courts in Europe. I really look stunning in this series. In the summer, I also filmed in the feature film “Footprints” directed by Alice Zariņa. In it, I played the mother of the main character, played by the Daile Theater actress Ieva Segliņa. In this movie, I again acted together with the actor Janus Johansson, with whom we used to play together a lot in the Valmiera Drama Theater when we were young. He is my husband in this film,” she says. Also, this fall, Leonarda starred in a new television series.

ķestere-Kļaviņa says that she cannot imagine her life without acting: “I have to maintain a good professional level in my first profession – acting. It is a great honor to be remembered and invited to film.
In the early mornings or at night, I also watch films in which I have participated – both “Sleep of Souls” and “Guardians of Riga”.
Now I also have to show my granddaughter Alma where her grandmother used to play when she was young. The granddaughter is very happy to have a new grandmother to watch in the movies. Alma is also very fond of theater performances, movies and concerts. The granddaughter has inherited acting genes, so it all comes naturally to her. Alma visits exhibitions at the National Art Museum, the Riga Stock Exchange, the Cēsi Museum of History and Art, and also goes to piano concerts. My granddaughter really likes the symphony orchestra, she is a lover of art and theater. We also go to museums together very often. Alma is a very good companion and interlocutor, because she is always very interested and asks a lot of questions,” ķestere-Kļaviņa does not hide her joy for her granddaughter, who will be four years old in March.

Not only Leonarda is productive at work, the rest of her family are also busy with work, about which she says: “We live in freestyle, we live in the here and now. We are happy for every hour we can be with ours. Our family has organized management and logistics. Also, we have joint events – field work, raking leaves, shoveling snow, heating the sauna, which are very unifying. Especially because now there is a new generation and all these joint events bring great joy to the children. The time spent at home during the Covid pandemic was very grateful, then I could really be with my family more.”
