König founded the International Music Foundation for Highly Gifted Children (IMFoundation) in 2016, with which she supports young musicians between the ages of five and 18 through individual lessons in their artistic development. In order to give them opportunities to perform, she developed, among other things, the television program “Stars and Talents by Leona König”, in which the young artists meet opera stars such as Elina Garanca and Andreas Schager as well as other renowned musicians. In addition, since 2017, the Foundation has been awarding the “Golden Note” prize for young classical music artists every year.

“Musical theater has always been a central component of Austrian high culture. It is all the more important that classical music is also made accessible to the younger generation and that young talents are supported early on, comprehensively and, above all, sustainably in developing their skills. With the IMFoundation, Leona König is doing without a doubt pioneering work – and at the highest level,” praised the President of the Austrian Music Theater Prize, Karl-Michael Ebner.

Born in Prostějov (Czech Republic) in 1981, König studied economics at the Prague University of Economics and graduated with a degree in engineering. For her commitment to promoting young talent, she was named Austrian of the Year 2020 in the cultural heritage category at the “Austria Gala” by the daily newspaper “Die Presse”. She also received the “Woman of the Year Award” 2022 and this year the Golden Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria.

The Austrian Music Theater Prize has been awarded for outstanding performances in opera, operetta, musicals and ballet since 2013. The organizer is the Art Projekt association. This year prizes will be awarded in 13 categories.
