As expected and as it looked on paper, Cruz Azul entered León’s field and took the victory to end Matchday 7 of the Apertura 2024 as the sole leader with 19 points.
Eduardo Berizzo made his debut on the Esmeraldas bench, and his performance improved, but it was not enough to maintain the early lead they had gained, although they paid a high price for the defeat.
Jhonder Cádiz opened the scoring with a shot from Diego Hernández that left the Venezuelan alone and he crossed the ball over Kevin Mier who could do nothing more to prevent the goal, it was barely four minutes into the match.
The equaliser came before the end of the first half, Lorenzo Faravelli took advantage of a defensive error to send the ball into Alfonso Blanco’s net after a cross from Jorge Sánchez.
In the second half, the Machine was rewarded for its persistence, as the ball refused to go in, until Rodolfo Rotondi turned the score around with a right-footed shot that left the Panza Verdes’ goalkeeper with no chance, in the 82nd minute.
In this way, León will remain in the lower part of the standings with four points. For the eighth matchday, Cruz Azul will visit Atlético San Luis and León will do the same against Chivas.
