Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin failed to win at Hong Kong Open 2023. They beat Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in the final.
Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin vs Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen took place at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Sunday (17/9/2023). Leo/Daniel lost with a score of 10-21, 24-22, 21-19.
Leo/Daniel couldn’t do much in the first game even though it was tight at the start. Leo/Daniel’s points stopped at five, which allowed Astrup/Rasmussen to freely lead 11-5 until the interval.
After the break, Leo/Daniel still couldn’t get up. They then had to be willing to lose the first game with a score of 10-21.
Leo/Daniel led 5-2 in the second game. However, several mistakes allowed Astrup/Rasmussen to take the lead 7-6.
When he was able to equalize the score, Leo made a mistake. The drop shot went out of the field and Astrup/Rasmussen led 8-7.
Leo/Daniel then recovered by getting four points in a row. This made Leo/Daniel lead 11-10 at the interval.
Daniel tried to put pressure on his opponent by releasing smashes. However, his efforts did not result in any points after the shuttlecock got caught in the net. Astrup/Rasmussen returned to lead 13-12.
Astrup/Rasmussen experienced difficulties when they were already leading by three points. Leo/Daniel persistently cut it to 17-18.
The duel had to continue to the setting when Astrup/Rasmussen needed one more point to win. Leo/Daniel successfully equalized the score to 20-20.
Leo/Daniel were able to take the lead 21-20, but Astrup/Rasmussen didn’t give up and widened the setting after the score was 21-21.
Leo/Daniel were finally able to force the duel to a rubber game. They won the second game with a score of 24-22.
The deciding game was very tight. The two pairs always only differed by one point and Astrup/Rasmussen led 11-10 at the interval.
After the break, Astrup/Rasmussen successfully widened it to 15-12. Leo/Daniel, who didn’t want the distance to continue to widen, was finally able to cut it to 14-15.
Leo/Daniel were able to equalize the score to 18-18, Astrup/Rasmussen quickly took another point to lead 19-18. Rasmussen was then able to contribute another point and is now one point away from winning.
Astrup/Rasmussen can finally become champions. Daniel’s failed shuttle return saw the Danish pair win 21-19.
