Jakarta –
Lionel Messi hasn’t stopped making a significant impact since joining Inter Miami this summer. Coach Tata Martino called La Pulga showing the same leadership attitude in his team as when defending Argentina national team.
“What he is doing here is more or less similar to what we saw at the World Cup with Argentina. Leo’s leadership on and off the field has been prominent over the last few years,” said Martino, quoted by ESPN.
“I think about what he did in the World Cup because it reflects the leadership attitude he has.”
Prior to Miami, Martino had coached Messi in Barcelona and Argentina. According to him, the 36-year-old attacker has completely changed to become more authoritative.
“It’s totally different from the first years of his career when he only led from the football side. Today he still has an impact on the pitch, but also in training, in chatting with the young players, in the way of executing ideas for the team,” continued Martino.
“When he came, he said, ‘I’m here to compete and win.’ I think the fourth goal (against Dallas) is a great example. He celebrated the goal, but at the same time said, ‘Come on, let’s get the ball, let’s try and score a fifth.'”

“That attitude reflects his mentality, and of course, it’s something that rubs off on everyone,” explained Martino.
Messi has scored seven goals and provided one assist for Miami in the 2023 Leagues Cup, taking them to the quarter-finals. Next they will meet Charlotte FC, Saturday (12/8) at 07.30 WIB.
