“Lenzburg Annual Report 2022: Challenges, Accomplishments, and Future Plans”

Lenzburg

More people unable to drive, more fire brigade deployments – but also more bookings in the city’s own holiday home

The Lenzburg City Council held fewer meetings, but passed more resolutions. The year 2022 is recapitulated in the annual report.

One of the largest loans approved by the residents’ council in 2022: 1.55 million for the renovation of the town hall.

A “remarkable and challenging” year. This is how Daniel Mosimann, Lenzburg Mayor, describes 2022 in the annual report. He addresses global political issues such as the Ukraine conflict, which is also reflected at the municipal level. In the former Hotel Lenzburg, for example, space was created for around 60 refugees.

The mayor also addresses “important decisions” in and for Lenzburg. This has been achieved in several city projects that have been running for many years: For example, a development plan has finally been presented for the train station. The new construction of the district court building was approved by the Great Council, and the residents’ council in turn spoke 600,000 francs for the design of the surroundings, namely the “Malaga Park”. The overall revision of the building and usage regulations has also taken a step forward with the second public edition.

Executive and Legislative

Such big topics were dealt with, but also everything else that moves a city. The City Council held 45 meetings last year. Four fewer than in 2021. However, meetings in 2022 seem to have progressed more quickly: 1063 agenda items were dealt with, compared to 1010 in the previous year, and 426 resolutions were passed (2021: 376).

The legislature, the residents’ council, met a total of seven times in 2022. The members discussed a dozen commitment credits for a total of around 9.1 million francs. The highest: two Millions for the second pedestrian underpass at the station. A further CHF 1.55 million will be invested in the comprehensive renovation of the town hall, which is owned by the local community.

Of the 301 employees of the city administration at the end of 2022, 173 were in permanent employment. 128 in a temporary or part-time job. For example cleaning staff or employees of the curative education school, most of whom have fixed-term employment contracts according to the annual report.

119 members of the fire brigade

The Lenzburg regional police have already reviewed their year in the 24 associated municipalities in a separate report. The city’s annual report also shows that 21 drivers were stopped while intoxicated (previous year: 17) and 74 (2021: 34) were stopped when they were not able to drive, i.e. under medication or drugs. The significant increase is justified by targeted controls and internal training in this area.

The regional fire brigade (Lenzburg, Ammerswil, Staufen) was called out 143 times last year; in the previous year it had been 118 times. However, the number of false alarms has also increased from 28 to 37. 141 exercises were carried out (in 2021 there were 138), the number of teams fell slightly from 121 to 119.

Student numbers are increasing

The number of students in the regional school is constantly increasing. From 1391 in the 2020/21 school year to 1420 in the 2021/22 school year, to a total of 1465 for the current one. The number of departments always remains the same: 70.

The orders in school social work have increased by 28 to 389. The number of discussions with the pupils, external specialists, legal guardians and so on has fallen; this from 1298 in 2021 to 1092 last year. Means: Fewer consultations or assignments were required per order.

The city-owned holiday home in Samedan, which has always been controversial, was better utilized than in 2021. It was occupied for 26 weeks last year; in the previous year it was 10 weeks, which, however, had a lot to do with the pandemic.
