LINZ. The Association of Lentos Friends, in cooperation with the Linz Art University, is offering an art prize for young talents. Registrations for submissions are possible until Friday, March 26, 2021. The prize is endowed with a total of 8,000 euros.
Young, Upper Austrian artists are invited by the Lentos Friends and the Art University Linz to apply for the art prize with their works on the topic of “Solidarity”. It is endowed with a total of 8,000 euros.
Support the young generation
“It is particularly important to the Lentos friends to support the younger generation of artists. We are therefore very pleased to be able to award the art prize for the fourth time. In the past we have already been able to promote some new talents, ”says Michaela Keplinger-Mitterlehner, President of the Lentos Friends Association, looking forward to the submissions.
Thoughts on “Solidarity”
The “Lentos Friends Art Prize”, which is awarded every three years, went to David Fisslthaler (Art University Linz), Olena Newkryta (University of Applied Arts Vienna) and Esther Strauss (Art University Linz) for their work on the topic of “Diversity” in 2018. .
“The term ‘solidarity’ has acquired a new relevance and meaning in the current time of crisis. In the shattered art world in particular, standing together and any form of support are more important than ever. For our students and graduates, the Lentos Friends Art Prize is an excellent opportunity to show the high quality of their work, ”says Brigitte Hütter, Rector of the Art University Linz.
The jury decides
A jury of experts will select the best work from the entries. Lentos director Hemma Schmutz, herself a member of the jury, is excited about the submissions: “It is always a pleasure to look through the works of young artists and to discover the potential of the next generation.”
A selection of the submitted works of art will be presented at a multi-day sales exhibition in Lentos in October. The best works will also receive prize money totaling 6,000 euros, donated by Raiffeisenlandesbank, Internorm and Hauser GmbH. Due to the difficult current situation, the city of Linz supported with 2,000 euros. “We want to take the opportunity to support a very promising talent. For the upswing, we need a lively cultural scene in Linz, ”explains City Councilor for Culture Doris Lang-Mayerhofer.
Artists born in Upper Austria, students enrolled in the 2020/2021 academic year and graduates of the Art University Linz, each up to the age of 35, are eligible to participate. To participate in the competition, a binding registration is required by March 26, 2021, via email to [email protected].
