Special honor for ÖFB legionnaire and Lens defensive man Kevin Danso!
The defender was officially named Ligue1 MVP of the 2022/23 season by the French portal “Get French Football News” in the player of the season vote.
Danso prevailed against greats like superstar Kylian Mbappe and can look forward to the honorable award.
Danso consistent throughout the season
The reason for the 24-year-old’s award lies in his consistency throughout the season, in which he hardly made a serious mistake and which ultimately resulted in the win against co-favorite Kylian Mbappe.
Only in a duel against Olympique Marseille did Danso concede a goal against Alexis Sanchez, which fortunately was disallowed.
But Danso is not the only one who received this special honor in Lens. Because like his protégé, Franck Haise, the head coach of the “Lensois”, was honored and voted coach of the year.
The 52-year-old led the club from Ligue 2 to the Champions League and is largely responsible for RC Lens’ success.
Wahi as youngster of the year – Griezmann best Frenchman abroad
Since his contract runs until the summer of 2027, he will contest the upcoming Champions League group phase with the Danso-Elf.
The portal gave another award to Montpellier’s Elye Wahi, who at the age of 20 was able to score 19 goals and six assists last season and thus deserved the main prize in the “Youngster of the Year” category.
And Antoine Griezmann did not go away empty-handed either. The Atletico veteran experienced a kind of second spring last season and was able to shoot himself into the spotlight in the category “Best Frenchman Abroad” with 15 goals and 17 assists in the Spanish LaLiga.
