Lenovo’s 2023 gaming laptops will get face detection and ‘AI chip’ for more fps – Computing – News

Lenovo has equipped its gaming laptops for 2023 with new hardware and an “AI chip”, which is supposed to increase maximum consumption for better performance. Laptops can optionally be equipped with Tobii eye tracking.

Lenovo is updating all of its Legion laptops, with a slightly changed look, but the main changes are inside. The Legion Pro 7 and Pro 5 laptops will feature new hardware from Intel is the thirteenth generation, or AMD 7000-series. In all cases these are ‘HX’ processors, with a tdp of 55W.

Video cards in laptops, as far as announced, are only from Nvidia. It concerns video cards from Nvidia recently announced RTX40 series. Lenovo lists the maximum power to which the company configures video cards with all video cards. Lenovo opts for as much power as Nvidia allows, including the 25W dynamic boost clock.

To further increase performance, the laptops are equipped with a “Lenovo LA AI chip”. Lenovo isn’t very clear on exactly how this works, but the chip needs to ensure that the CPU and GPU communicate better to achieve higher frame rates. It seems that the chip should ensure that some extra power goes to the CPU during gameplay if it’s the limiting factor in a game, or to the GPU if the limit is there.

The laptops are also equipped with Tobii Horizon, a system that uses eye and face tracking to convert facial movements into movement in games.
