Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid: Windows 11 Laptop and Android Tablet in One

At the CES 2024 conference, different brands showed off their new products or new technologies. In addition to launching the tablet Tab M11, Lenovo also launched a new 2-in-1 device called ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid, which means It is quite innovative to combine a Windows 11 laptop and an Android tablet into one.

What’s even more surprising is that the two systems can operate simultaneously, thanks to a feature called “Hybrid Stream”. Once enabled, a picture-in-picture window for the Android app will appear on your laptop screen. Lenovo claims that this feature has “high performance” and “low latency” capabilities.

From the appearance, this 14-inch device looks like other ThinkBook laptops. It is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and runs Windows 11. Lenovo calls this mode “Hybrid Station,” and in this mode it basically acts like a regular clamshell laptop. It weighs only 2.1 pounds and is 0.37 inches thick, making it an extremely lightweight stand-alone device.

But when you remove the screen, a completely different system boots up, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and Android 13. At 14 inches in size, 1.7 pounds in weight, and 0.26 inches in thickness, it’s a pretty big tablet. Luckily, you can use the keyboard and trackpad as wireless accessories even in tablet mode. The screen has a 2.8K resolution and an OLED panel, which looks very clear, but the refresh rate is locked at 60Hz.

As of now, it appears that the device is only available in one configuration, which comes with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of ROM. The tablet itself also has 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM. It is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2024, priced at US$1,999, equivalent to approximately US$15,621.6 in Hong Kong dollars.
