In recent years, manufacturers have gotten closer to creating the perfect laptop-tablet hybrid. The developers at Lenovo decided that Android has a better touch interface compared to Windows, while Windows is a better laptop experience than Android. As a result, they came up with a 2-in-1 ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid device with two processors and two software platforms.
In laptop mode, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid works like a regular Windows laptop, but when you detach the display, the device turns into an Android tablet. The bottom half of the laptop—the Windows half—is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 75Whr battery.
The top half of the laptop—the Android half—is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 38Whr battery. Regardless of the mode selected, the device uses a 14-inch OLED display with a 2.8K resolution.
It is noted that in the current version, the two parts of one device practically do not interact with each other. For example, when preparing a presentation in laptop mode in Windows, you cannot simply detach the screen and continue working with it in tablet mode in Android. Instead, you will have to manually move files from one OS to another.
The situation may change closer to the launch of the device to the masses, but at this stage the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is actually two computers in one. As for the launch timing, Lenovo plans to start selling the new product in the second quarter of this year at a price of about $1,999.
