Lenovo refreshes its line of business laptops with an overpowered ThinkPad

Lenovo unveiled new business laptops, including a very versatile ThinkPad X13s and a simply monstrous X1 Extreme.

Decidedly, laptop enthusiasts will have been spoiled on the occasion of this MWC 2022. After the very beautiful proposals signed Huawei and the return with fanfare of Samsung on the segment laptopit’s Lenovo’s turn to present five new products united under the same watchword: mobility without concessions.

Let’s start with the star of Lenovo’s presentation: the new version of the ThinkPad X13s. It is a product that occupies a niche usually far from being the most interesting, namely that of “business” laptops. But once is not custom, this small machine is worth a look in part thanks to its precursor status; it’s the very first laptop to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor.

It is a rather competent chip, but above all exceptionally efficient in terms of energy consumption; Lenovo claims an impressive 28 hours of battery life, which should leave plenty of room for traveling professionals. These performances also allow the brand to reproduce the chip passively, without a fan.

The latter will also be delighted to learn that even if it is not part of the elite on this specific criterion, the machine is still very light (1.06 kg) and thin (13.4 mm at the hinge). The typical arsenal of the professional laptop is completed by a 5 MP camera, a second infrared camera and a triple noise-canceling microphone for your videoconferences.

In addition to its 2 USB-C ports and its SIM and nano-SIM slots, the device will also have 32 GB of LPDDR4x memory, a 1 TB SSD and all current standards in terms of connectivity. professional (Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G mmWave, RF chip). Finally, Lenovo’s professional security suite will also be there.

The ThinkPad X13s will be available starting at €1,399 from May 22.

ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5: on-the-go productivity without compromise

On the other hand, those who need to take a big dose of power with them on the go will probably want to aim higher. This is precisely the raison d’être of the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 which, as its name suggests, does not bother with any concessions.

And this is not an understatement, because the technical sheet is particularly impressive. Judge for yourself: the most expensive model will arrive equipped with a fearsome up to the 12th generation Core i9 H-series. No compromise either on the graphics part, since the machine is capable of hosting a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 16 GB version – the most powerful model available in Nvidia’s Portable series.

The set will be supported by 64 GB of DDR5 RAM at 4800 MHz, and can carry up to 8 TB (!) of NVMe storage. It should therefore be able to take on the vast majority of standard productivity tasks without a chin shake, from 3D modeling to Solidworks simulations, machine learning and ultra-high resolution video editing.

The screen also looks impressive, at least for the most expensive version; it is a 16” UHD+ touchscreen IPS panel capable of delivering 600 nits of brightness with HDR support and excellent color coverage.

The device also has impressive connectivity with 1 full-size HDMI 2.1 port, 2 USB-A 3.2 Gen ports, two Thunderolt 4 ports, an SD Express 7.0 card reader, and an optional nano-SIM reader. Obviously, the machine is also entitled to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 standards.

Suffice to say that this monster will pay a high price; you will have to pay a minimum of €2,749… and this already exorbitant price will only get you an RTX 3050 Ti with a non-touch FHD+ screen and no HDR support. For the most expensive version, expect to add several hundred euros at the very least. The ThinkPad X1 Extreme will be available next June.

ThinkPad P14s and P16s, T14 and T16: more modest but very robust workstations

Those looking for a slightly less extreme machine can opt for other mobile workstations, the ThinkPad P14s and P16s, T14 and T16. All offer screens in 16:10 up to 16”, Intel Core i7 Alder Lake or AMD Ryzen 7 CPUs and an Nvidia T550 mobile graphics card.

Even if they are less powerful, they will still be perfectly suited to professional modeling and simulation applications such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks, to name a few. They will be available next April, starting at €1,529.
