Showed a noticeable, but ultimately also fruitless performance against Cadiz: Ousmane Dembélé.
German Parga – FC Barcelona
–
In the 1-1 draw in the home game against FC Cádiz, another mistake by Lenglet cost two points in the end, but FC Barcelona’s offensive around superstar Messi was too unimaginative and failed to decide the game earlier. Griezmann, in particular, was almost invisible, while asset Dembélé acted unhappy. The grades and player review.

Marc-André ter Stegen
Barça’s goalkeeper experienced an almost uneventful game against FC Cádiz – until he finally had to reach behind him after a penalty just before the end. Otherwise Marc-André ter Stegen brought all of his 21 attempts to pass to the teammate and did not have to show a save due to the inexistent offensive efforts of the guests. Barçawelt points: 6

Sergiño Dest
The right-back was often and courageously involved in the attack, after all, he was able to almost completely neglect his defensive duties. His good crosses – Dest played four important passes – could not be used by his teammates in the middle. After the weak performance against in the Champions League, such a game should give the 20-year-old American a little boost again. Barçawelt points: 6

Gerard Piqué
In his core competence as a central defender, Gerard Piqué was not really challenged against Cádiz, as the guests concentrated exclusively on defending. As the ball distributor, the defender acted safely in the second game after his return (96 percent successful passes), but was not faced with any major challenges. After the late equalization, Piqué rushed forward immediately, wanted to force the three points as an additional center forward – more than a missed chance, after an offside position anyway, but did not jump out of it. Clement Lenglet
Like his neighbor, Clement Lenglet played a solid and inconspicuous game over 87 minutes until his foul on Rubén Sobrino led to the penalty shortly before the end and ultimately cost Barça the victory. Admittedly it wasn’t a particularly bad entry and a somewhat flattering whistle, but Lenglet simply has to act smarter. Once again, an action by the French overshadows the game and causes a point loss. Barçawelt points: 4

Jordi Alba
The left-back played more than a winger against the defensive opponent. Despite 101 ball actions, Jordi Alba could hardly contribute anything on the offensive, his crosses often seemed blinded. Not a bad performance by Alba, but against such an opponent he must be more dangerous. Barçawelt points: 6

Sergio Busquets
The veteran in Barça’s midfield again made his contribution to the dominance of the Catalans after his helpless appearance against Paris – admittedly, Cádiz cannot of course be compared with PSG. In the first round, Busquets had as many ball actions as the opponent, successful passes, but appeared again prone to counter-attack situations in one or the other situation. Played a great lift over the defense on Messi (60th), was replaced a little later for Miralem Pjanic. Overall, a decent performance by Sergio Busquets – no more and no less. Barçawelt points: 6

Frenkie de Jong
Frenkie de Jong was extremely secure on the ball against Cádiz and brought most of his passes to the man with 96 percent. However, the Dutchman could not play his usual strengths against the defensive bulwark of the guests: he could practically not dribble dynamically towards the defense, as Cadiz left no space for it. His runs also fizzled into the sixteenth. Thus, de Jong limited himself to the role of ball distributor and ensured dominance in midfield. He scored the supposed 2-0 shortly before the break, but was previously offside. Against such defensive opponents you would like to see a lot more creativity from the 23-year-old. Barçawelt points: 5

Pedri
The youngster was able to rehabilitate at least halfway after playing against PSG. Pedri showed a couple of remarkable combinations with Messi in the short passing game – one of which was a great lifter for a great chance of scoring – but overall the 18-year-old lacked the punch against the very low guests. After half an hour, he took out a penalty with a clever ball contact, which Messi converted to 1-0. Otherwise Pedri acted mostly inconspicuously, a pass rate of 92 percent is still impressive. After 74 minutes he left the field for Francisco Trincão. Barçawelt points: 6

Antoine Griezmann
Although the first promising, albeit blocked, conclusion of the game belonged to the French, Antoine Griezmann was pretty much in the air for much of the game. The world champion is simply not made for the grand piano, but with so little space in the center, Griezmann had no noticeable impact there either. Due to the lack of attacking efforts of the guests, Griezmann’s defensive work cannot be praised this time either, after 65 minutes his working day ended with a meager 19 successful passes in 35 ball actions – Martin Braithwaite came on for him. Barçawelt points: 3

Ousmane Dembele
With a whopping 109 touches of the ball, Ousmane Dembélé was more involved than seldom. He tried again and again to crack Cádiz’s massive defensive barrier with his tempo dribbles. Unfortunately, he succeeded too rarely, and if he did get through, he ultimately made the wrong decision or lacked the necessary accuracy. After a world-class dribble past half of the guest defense, his finish was blocked by the defender from a promising position (63.), a little later he penetrated the penalty area after a successful one-on-one, but shot the shot to the left. A committed and very noticeable but unfortunate appearance by the Frenchman, who was substituted for Riqui Puig ten minutes before the end. Barçawelt points: 6

Lionel Messi
Barça’s new record player in La Liga could not prevent the loss of points. On his 506th appearance in Spain’s top division, Lionel Messi also had a hard time penetrating the guests’ dense defense network. His pass to Griezmann provided the first chance of the game, La Pulga mostly recorded their own deals outside the sixteenth, but only a few of them were really dangerous. Messi turned the 1-0 penalty very casually, while goalkeeper Ledesma was “looked out” in a classic way. The Argentinean was the most creative in the Catalans’ unimaginative offensive, but after a great ball from Busquets he failed free in front of the goal when attempting a cross pass to Griezmann, instead of trying to finish himself. He then awarded a volley from close range. Even the six-time world footballer could do little, but was still the best man at Barça. Barçawelt points: 7

Miralem Pjanic
The Bosnian came on for Busquets after 65 minutes, but was unable to give the mostly harmless offensive any new impulses and was mostly limited to cross passes. A shot attempt from a good 18 meters turned out to be quite miserable – it should remain the most conspicuous action. Barçawelt points: 5
–
–
Martin Braithwaite
Martin Braithwaite came on for the pale Griezmann 25 minutes before the end. Even if the Braithwaites player profile would certainly help FC Barcelona, the Dane can rarely set accents in such situations and also remained without any significant action against Cádiz. Barçawelt points: 5

–
Francisco Trincão
Francisco Trincão came on for Pedri a good quarter of an hour before the end, but the Portuguese couldn’t breathe life into the Catalan attack either. After all, he brought all of his seven pass attempts to the man with ten ball contacts. Barçawelt points: no rating

–
Riqui Puig
The home grown was allowed to play the last ten minutes instead of Dembélé and brought at least a bit of speed and dynamism to the headquarters. Except for a shot that Puig just missed the corner of the cross, he could hardly set any accents. In a promising switching situation, he was even noticed by a hasty and poor passing game. Barçawelt points: no rating

Oscar Mingueza
Oscar Mingueza came on for Dest in the 80th minute, but his substitution was also without profit. Barçawelt points: no rating

Trainer Ronald Koeman
Somewhat surprisingly, Barça coach Ronald Koeman relied on the same starting XI as in the debacle against PSG a few days ago. Against the exclusively defensive and destructive guests from Cadiz everything seemed to go according to plan with the 1-0 lead, but the Blaugrana came too seldom dangerous in front of the goal despite oppressive superiority. So it was missed to score the second goal – or almost to force it with such an opponent – which was to take revenge with the next Lenglet dropout. Barça’s (too) controlled offensive and wasteful use of opportunities were bitterly punished. Of course, Koeman can’t do much for that. Barçawelt points: 6
