Emily Kirschke has achieved a great deal: The Tölzerin prevailed against 3,300 competitors in the competition of the Chamber of Commerce and secured first the district victory, then the state victory and finally the national victory.
Lenggries – “I can’t believe it,” says the 21-year-old who works in the office of the Lenggries construction company P. Schwarzenberger and creates offers for customers. The emotional climax for her was the completely unexpected win of the national title. Kirschke was walking through the pedestrian zone in Rottweil in Baden-Württemberg when she received the message via Whatsapp: “You are the state winner.” Your reaction? “I jumped around like a little kid,” she says with a laugh.
The path to the German championship title was just as extraordinary as the whole year marked by the corona pandemic. Only at the beginning did everything go as hoped. Kirschke completed an apprenticeship in office management at the Wolfratshauser vocational school. She achieved an average grade of 1.0 and was awarded the State Prize. In December 2019, Kirschke passed the final written examination. She got full marks in the test on the computer and in the oral exam in January of this year. She only had to be satisfied with 96 percent for the final exam in the subjects of economics and social studies and office management. Overall, she got a value of 98.47 percent of the possible points – and wasn’t even overly proud of it: “I had one or two minor mistakes and thought to myself: someone else can do better.”
Schoolchildren with a straight line can register for the competition of the Chamber of Crafts, the best receive an invitation: “I didn’t know anything about it,” says Kirschke. She decided to take part, but the exam was canceled due to Corona, and so Kirschke was named chamber winner because of her excellent vocational school grade point average. Kirschke was amazed. Especially when the same thing was repeated at the state and federal level: the exams were omitted, the vocational school grade had to decide. And here Kirschke was ahead two more times. “I thought a podium would be gigantic. I couldn’t believe that it was the national victory. “Her father was probably even more happy about winning the title, says the 21-year-old with a smile:” He posted it on his Whatsapp status. Suddenly people congratulated me I hadn’t heard from in years. “
Because of Corona, the award ceremony could not take place in Berlin as planned, but only virtually: “You did it very well and recorded a picture of each national winner,” says Kirschke. She is waiting for the promised trophy until today. The former Upper Bavarian triathlon champion takes it easy, after all, she has already won many trophies at the triathlon: “I’m happy about the victory, not the trophy.”
