The head of Kiril Petkov’s cabinet, Lena Borislavova, denied that there was strong external pressure on Bulgaria in the case of Northern Macedonia. According to her, an attempt is being made in our country for internal political destabilization on the topic of our southwestern neighbor.
President Rumen Radev also spoke about the huge pressure on the topic.

Asked in what spirit the questions on the topic of the meeting in the United States were, she replied: “The topic was raised at one of the meetings. But there was no pressure. There was no ‘this or anything more’. They asked ‘what’s going on.’ We said we are waiting for results – the foreign ministries of Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia are working and when there are results, it will be made public. “
“What the Bulgarian government and the Prime Minister personally would like to see is some proof that the Republic of Northern Macedonia has a serious attitude towards hate speech and discrimination against the Bulgarian ethnic population. Therefore, these are the next steps we expect, after which we will be able to we will continue the work “, said Borislavova, specifying that in the meantime the foreign ministries of the two countries are actively continuing the talks.
Asked if she was worried about tensions between the ruling party and President Rumen Radev and the intensified dialogue between the two countries, Borislavova said: “We have different visions with the president on pressing public issues. that if we are a European partner of the EC, as countries like Poland and Romania, in terms of support for Ukraine, it would lead to war in our country. Here, we decided on military-technical assistance, there is no war in our country. , but that’s how a democratic society works. If we have unanimity on all issues – cabinet, opposition, society, we will be like North Korea – without freedom of speech, without democracy. “
She was adamant that the cabinet is pursuing a unified policy towards northern Macedonia. Borislavova described Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska’s statements about differences between the Foreign Ministry and the prime minister’s foreign policy team as a “language mistake”.
“Bulgaria’s foreign policy is led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – that is, by Teodora Genchovska. She or her deputies always accompany the prime minister personally and she personally confirmed that she and the prime minister have the same foreign policy. I attribute the rest to the language. The conference in Skopje with the participation of a Bulgarian delegation led by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has been postponed because there is no document showing progress in the negotiations due to non-compliance with the neighborhood agreement.
