Lemur monkeys sing with rhythm, research shows

Scientists have discovered something special about lemur monkeys. They produce rhythmic vocals. This is according to research published in the journal Current Biology.

Swinging ring-tailed lemurs can also be found in the well-known animation film Madagascar. ‘I like to move it, move it’, King Julien sings there. This turns out to be somewhat closer to reality than previously assumed.

You can’t really call it singing, but it is definitely rhythmic. It is not clear whether the monkeys themselves also know that they are rhythmic. Pigeons, for example, do coo in a certain tone, but do not hear that regularity.
