In the coming years, 750 new owner-occupied and rental homes will be built in the Central Campus area. Councilor Piet van Dijk and developer Verwelius signed an agreement for this purpose on Thursday. The main habitat of the habitat is the area between Gordiaandreef and Larserdreef.
The housing project is part of the ‘Heart of the City’ programme, with which Lelystad wants to create an attractive and lively town centre. Councilor Dennis Grimbergen emphasizes that the new homes contribute to the goal of growing Lelystad to 120,000 residents by 2040.
The Central campus must be a place of living, education, sports and recreation. Other housing projects have been completed in recent years, including: apartments in bungalows. Porteum high school is also on the campus and the old De Rietlanden high school, but now being renovated knocked down.
Previous plans referred to 416 homes. That number was changed to 750. The town had set the upper limit for the area at 1,000 homes.

45 parties were interested in the construction project. In the end, five developers were given the opportunity to create a sketch design, after which the contract was finally awarded to Verwelius in August.
The construction company Verwelius was already known in Lelystad with the development of De Notentuin in the Warande area. The company hopes to “raise the town” with the project in the Central Campus area.
The construction company will soon arrange an information meeting for interested parties and local residents.
