Lekkas: There must be an earthquake in Istanbul immediately – 2024-04-19 12:20:48

“The international scientific community has pointed out that an earthquake should happen immediately in Constantinople” emphasized the President of OASP, Efthymios Lekkas.

“I say “must” because it is the last piece of the rift. The Anatolia fault consists of 13 pieces, 13 segments. The 12 sections are broken. The last part that has broken, i.e. caused a major earthquake, was in 1999 in Nikomedia. The last fault now that has not broken, from 1911 until now, is the fault that is south of Istanbul, in the underwater space. The international scientific groups had calculated that it should have broken by 2020. As long as it is delayed, tensions build up and a bigger earthquake can occur,” the professor said while speaking to ERT.

“Also, the issue came to the fore because we had two earthquakes in Bursa and Kovackili, a suburb of Istanbul, which is on the edges and edges of the fault and we suspected that something is happening here, the edges of the fault are breaking, possibly the whole fault” he explained.

“However, in any case, there must be a big earthquake in the next five years, because as time passes, the earthquake from 7.8 gets bigger and goes to 8, goes to 8.2. So you understand there will be huge losses” he concluded.
