Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – At the long-awaited start of the outdoor swimming season in the Rheinbad in Düsseldorf, more than 100 people braved rain and wind and went swimming. On this Saturday the season began for some outdoor pools in North Rhine-Westphalia – in cities and districts with a stable seven-day incidence below 100, sports can be played in the outdoor pools again. The number of visitors is limited, swimmers must have a negative test, recover or be fully vaccinated. The sunbathing areas are also closed as long as the incidence in the region is not stable below 50.

The conditions did not keep water rats and ambitious athletes off on Saturday in Düsseldorf, nor did the changeable weather. The first time slot from eight o’clock was completely booked, it was said in the Rheinbad. In the morning, well over 100 swimmers had slipped into their bathing suits and swam their laps. The anticipation for this moment after months of corona-related closed bathrooms was great, reported visitors to the German press agency.
